We modified the Proto X to replace the 100mah battery with a 160mah battery from HobbyKing. This greatly increases both the power and the flight time - typical flight time 8:30 vs the 4:00 we usually get with the standard battery. If you want to try the mod yourself, first remove the cover, then unplug the 100mah battery. We cut the brackets on either side of the battery plug, then unsoldered the connector and the remaining material on the bracket on the ProtoX. We soldered a short piece of 24 gauge solid wire to the right side of the connector, and anchored it to the ground (the same area the brackets were attached to). Another short piece of wire, with insulation, soldered to the + terminal on the connector, wrapped around to the back and soldered to the center terminal of the power switch. In this view the pins of the connector are pointing up away from the Proto X. We used a piece of double stick tape to hold the battery in place - velcro also works. Make sure the +/- terminals are NOT shorted before plugging the battery in!

If you don't want to hassle, order the modified Proto X from us.

Note the normal charger also works, but takes 40-45m to charge instead of the usual 15-20m. You can also unpug the batteries and use any of the conventional single cell LiPo chargers sized for this battery.
